How long a Hearts Supporter | Over 30 Years |
First Hearts match | Hearts v Preston pre-season friendly 1967.
We won 2-1, Donald Ford scored and that great picture of George Miller doing a ballet kick made the first of its many appearances on the programme cover |
How long a member of London Hearts | Not A Member |
How did you find out about London Hearts | A member in the 80's...... |
Favourite all time Hearts Player | Jim Cruikshank - a scandal that he got so few caps and I'll forgive him his dodgy games against Clyde for his penalty saves against Tommy Gemmell
Bobby Prentice - for skill and flair when there wasn't much else around Ralph Callachan (1975-76) and slightly more recently, Craig Levein, Robbo and Henry Smith |
Most memorable Game | The Cup win.......
Leipzig at home in 1976......... The 3-0 win at Tannadice in 1986 when even Roddy Forsyth called us champions afterwards.... Derek Renton equalising in a 1972 Scottish Cup tie against Celtic and SILENCING Parkhead....... And the last season's four-nil home win against Dundee because my small daughter had her first visit to Tynie - and we won! |
How often do you get to games | About two to three times a season |
Favourite English team | Charlton - friendly club, progressive board who listen to the supporters - a real turnaround in the last ten years |
Lowest moment | Hmm there's a few here aren't there?
May 1986 and January 1973 of course.... Losing the "relegation decider" against Ayr at Tynie in 1976 was grim as was the 5-2 defeat at home to Dumbarton in the season we didn't go up... And don't forget that dismal four or five months in 1981 when the poorest Hearts side in my lifetime were more or less relegated in January and even the fans gave up (remember 1800 or so against Killie?) |
Best Hearts goal | Robbo's first at Tannadice in the 3-0 win in 86 (and a vote here too for Henry's save from Malpas' free-kick as the best save)
Ian Ferguson's against Bayern......... And Colin Cameron's penalty in the 98 final...okay it was a penalty but just how often have we all seen Hearts blow a great chance in the past when the pressure was on? |
Best thing about being a Jambo | Knowing I can go out and buy a colour print of my favourite team parading the Scottish Cup! (think about it......................) |
Proudest moment | The Cup being paraded through Princes Street.......
Mather's Bar (I think!) the night before...... Munich when we were so close to going through...... |
How did you become a Jambo | My dad was a Hearts man but stopped going after the 1965 team lost the league on the last day. Unbeknown to him, my mum bought me a Celtic strip in the summer of 67 after they'd won the European Cup (I was only seven). My dad was horrified when he saw his only son wearing the hated hoops and I was marched off to Tynie the following Saturday for the Preston game (see above). I never did see the Celtic strip again..... |
