Hearts fans are unhappy

22 Jun 1994

THE Federation of Hearts Supporters' Clubs last night revealed their fears for the future -- as the door slammed firmly shut at Tynecastle for a second day.

New chairman, Chris Robinson, continued to refuse telephone calls and Alex Jones, general secretary of the association, insisted they were "very worried."

His organisation represents 38 individual supporters' clubs, and he added that several office-bearers were unhappy with the possibility of the appointment of former Motherwell manager Tommy McLean to replace sacked Sandy Clark.

"The senior people within our federation reacted with a feeling of shock at Clark's sacking.

A new broom sweeping clean is fine, but Tommy McLean is totally unacceptable to us.

He has no knowledge of Hearts," he said.

"The way things have started seems to be a shambles and, although we want to build a relationship with the board, things are not off on a good footing." Meanwhile, the two leading candidates for the manager's job, Falkirk's Jim Jeffries and McLean, are both on holiday in Spain.
