Dunfermline Athletic 1-4 Hearts

Michal Pospisil scored twice as Hearts kept pace with SPL leaders Celtic with a comfortable win at East End Park.

Hearts defender Steven Pressley fired home the opener from close range after Calum Elliot failed to finish from a Paul Hartley free-kick.

Pospisil finished from a Robbie Neilson cross before Mark Burchill scored for Dunfermline from another close-range effort, set up by Greg Ross.

But Pospisil headed the third and Rudi Skacel added the fourth from 12 yards.

Czech striker Pospisal had only been given a starting place because of an injury to Edgaras Jankauskas, with new signing Lee Johnson on the bench.

The visitors were still dangerous, with Hartley quickly firing a free-kick inches wide of the target.

Relegation-threatened Dunfermline came closer to scoring when Ross embarked on a decent run before setting up Andy Tod for a header that whistled just over the crossbar.

Burchill had a shot blocked by Craig Gordon after the Hearts goalkeeper fumbled at his feet.

Dunfermline had brought in Burchill and Scott Wilson for Scott Thomson and Aaron Labonte after last week's disappointed Scottish Cup exit to Airdrie United.

And they held Hearts at bay early on thanks to five players strung across the midfield.

Pars goalkeeper Allan McGregor was eventually called into action to parry a point-blank shot from Rudi Skacel.

But he was helpless when a Hartley free-kick into the box broke to Elliot, whose shot was turned into the net by Pressley from close range.

Hearts looked to have killed the game early after the break when Pospisil bulleted the ball home from six yards following a cut-back by Neilson.

Dunfermline pounced on some slack defending when Burchill finished from four yards after being set up by Greg Ross.

But a Hartley free-kick was met by Pospisil, who sent a looping header into the back of the net.

Skacel ended hopes of a home combeback when he was released into the box by Julien Brellier and kept his cool to slip the ball under McGregor.

The Czech midfielder was denied a second of the day when an effort smashed off the underside of the crossbar.
