Strachan could face an extra ban

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan will find out next month if he faces additional punishment following his touchline bust-up at Tynecastle.

He and Hearts coach John McGlynn face automatic touchline bans after being sent to the stand as Hearts won 2-1.

But it appears that referee Stuart Dougal has filed an extra report about remarks made to him by Strachan.

Dougal has refused to comment, but his report will be considered by the SFA disciplinary meeting on 19 September.

Strachan had been unhappy that the game was stopped for treatment to Hearts midfielder Julien Brellier after he clashed with Aiden McGeady just before the interval.

The referee has refused to say whether a tunnel incident involving Strachan had been included.

With the added communication, maybe, I will not be aware of a player who is seriously injured

But he maintains that his decision to stop play was correct.

"As far as I am concerned, things are now finished," said Dougal.

"My report is with the SFA and they will deal with it in due process.

"It is not my place to elaborate on what happened.

"Anything I have to say has formed part of my report and that will be dealt with by the SFA."

The indicent has again called into question the practice of players deciding to stop the game for injuries.

"There is not really an area to be cleared up in terms of the laws of the game," said Dougal. "The referees know exactly what should be happening.

"In fairness to the players, it has developed through the Fair Play scheme and looking after a fellow professional.

"But I think it has now got to a stage where it may be getting abused or it may be upsetting the full running of a game.

"Leave it up to the referee and let us decide."

Dougal was speaking at the announcement of a new three-year sponsorship extension for referees with Specsavers opticians.

The agreement will see the advancement of technology in the game with improved communication aids for all officials.

"With the added communication, maybe, I will not be aware of a player who is seriously injured, I may just think he has twisted his ankle," he added.

"But, if an assistant can see clearly the player is in some distress, then the added communication we have should now help to alleviate that situation but leave it up to the referees to sort out."
