CHRISTIE TRIED TO CAPTURE CALUM

CHARLIE CHRISTIE worked round the clock to try to lure Calum Elliot to Inverness. Now the Caley Thistle boss admits he'll have his work cut out to subdue the on - loan Motherwell hitman this weekend.

Christie revealed how he just failed with an audacious last-gasp bid to entice Elliot to the Highlands before the transfer window closed but the Hearts youngster opted instead for a temporary move to Fir Park.

Now Inverness will have to snuff out the threat posed by the Scotland Under-21 star when Well visit on Saturday.

Christie said: "Calum is one player I tried hard to get last week but it just wasn't to be.

"From the minute he burst on to the scene I've rated him very highly indeed.

"With so many foreign players at their disposal, I think Calum has maybe suffered a wee bit at Hearts but there's no doubt he's a quality player. It's encouraging we have a young Scots lad so talented as Calum.

"Sure, I'd much rather he was in our team than coming up against us. But that's the way things go and we'll just need to try to thwart him as best we can."

Christie's swoop for Elliot proves his desire to attract top quality to Caley Thistle. But he admits the location of the club can sometimes be a drawback when it comes to bringing on board the best.

The manager said: "It's not the first time we've lost out on a player who maybe thinks our club is far away. But it's only a couple of hours in a car from the central belt, which is nothing nowadays.

"I can honestly say any player who's been committed enough to relocate here hasn't looked back."
