Hearts add another two players

MARTIN McMILLAN September 19 2006

Hearts' never-ending signing spree continued yesterday with confirmation that the club have secured the Australian youth internationalists, Rocco Visconte and Ryan McGowan, on three-year contracts.

The pair join compatriot Matthew Park at Tynecastle and were recommended to the club by the former Hearts defender, Dave McPherson, who works as a football agent in Australia.
McGowan, a 17-year-old defender, and Visconte, a 16-year-old striker, are both highly regarded in their homeland and have been capped at Under-17 level.
Indeed the rate of McGowan's development has seen him rewarded with a place in Australia's Under-20 set-up, and he made his debut in August against the Chilean club, Universidad de Chile.

McPherson was also behind Park's move to Tynecastle last year and the midfielder, who is another Under-17 internationalist, was on the bench for last week's disappointing UEFA Cup defeat to Sparta Prague.
"I knew I was close after being called into the squad for last week's game against St Mirren," he said. "But I'm still pinching myself that I've been part of a European tie. I'm still getting used to how fast things have moved for me since I signed."

Despite a downturn in results in recent weeks Michal Pospisil insists that Valdas Ivanauskas, Hearts' head coach, has the full backing of his players.
The Czech striker has been sidelined for a month with a leg knock but has not been immune to the criticism of recent poor results and the pressure which has been felt by Ivanauskas. "I think the whole team has sympathy with the coach," he said.
"There is a good relationship there between him and the players and I don't see any problems with it.

"You read in the papers about who picks the team but I think the team is okay because we don't see the relationship between Mr Romanov and
Valdas. It still looks okay and I think we can get the results to make sure the manager keeps his position. Valdas has tried to remain positive and has not panicked."
