Ivanauskas hails Gordon heroics

Hearts head coach Valdas Ivanauskas singled out the efforts of goalkeeper Craig Gordon following a thrilling Edinburgh derby draw at Easter Road.

Gordon pulled off a fantastic save in the dying minutes of a firey encounter that saw Saulius Mikoliunas ordered off for the visitors.

"I have no words," said Ivanauskas about the Scotland keeper. "After every game, it is similar.

"He is world class, because he is so young, and he has a big, big future."

Ivanauskas then vowed to take action against Mikoliunas, who picked up a second yellow card early in the second half for pulling at the jersey of midfielder Ivan Sproule, and was subsequently dismissed.

"His first yellow card was very aggressive, it was not positive aggression for him.

I have no questions about our performance, although, I was quite angry in the first 20 minutes, but I didn't think about losing
Valdas Ivanauskas, Hearts manager

"He is a young boy, and he wants to play in every game, he wants to try his best in every game. It was an experience for him, and we will have a discussion with him."

Speaking about the atmosphere at Easter Road for the first Edinburgh derby of the season, Ivanauskas praised the quality of play and passion of his side.

"It was a typical derby, with a lot of action," said Ivanauskas. "I have no questions about our performance, although, I was quite angry in the first 20 minutes, but I didn't think about losing.

"We are very good physically and psychologically, so after first goal, there was no question.

"We wanted to win this game."

Hearts captain Steven Pressley echoed the sentiments of Ivanauskas regarding the quality of football on display.

But the defender admitted that his team needs some help from other clubs in the SPL before they can leapfrog Celtic at the top of the table.

"It was a tremendous match, and a great advertisment for Scottish football today," Pressley told BBC Sport.

We will require favours from other teams if we're to stick with Celtic this season, because I believe that we are a capable side and a very good side
Steven Pressley

"Hibs are a very capable side, and if you allow them to play as we did in the opening 15-20 minutes, they're capable of carving you up.

"The gap is now at five points. First and foremost we have to take care of our own games and win them, but we need other teams to do us a favour with regards to the Old Firm.

"We will require favours from other teams if we're to stick with Celtic this season, because I believe that we are a capable side and a very good side.

"But to sustain it over the course of a season, you do you need favours from other teams."
