Celtic defeat is merely a blip for us, claims Driver

By COLLEEN PATERSON
HEARTS winger Andrew Driver today insisted he believes the defeat to Celtic will prove to be nothing more than a temporary blip for the Tynecastle side.
Goals from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Scott McDonald and Andreas Hinkel saw the Tynecastle side lose out at Celtic Park on Saturday, bringing their recent undefeated run to an end.

Prior to the 3-0 defeat in Glasgow, the Jambos had won their previous three SPL matches and recorded clean sheets in each of them.

And Driver believes that the loss to Gordon Strachan's side is nothing more than a hiccup for the Gorgie outfit. Hearts spurned a number of chances and played well against the champions and Driver maintained that there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

He said: "We came into the game with a bit of confidence and I think we've come out the other side of it with our confidence still intact. Okay, we've lost 3-0 but we've created chances of our own and we've played well – very well – in spells.

"As far as we are concerned this result is a blip and it's important that we don't let our heads go down. We want to continue in the same vein as the three games before the Celtic match where
were took nine points and kept three clean sheets."

And the Englishman believes that the Gorgie side's hope of claiming a European spot this season can still come to fruition.

Saturday's result leaves the Jambos in ninth position in the SPL table, 11 points behind third-placed Motherwell but Driver says there's no need for he and his team-mates to hit the panic button: "We've said that we are going to take it one game at a time and that is what we will continue to do. If we are going to try to get into the top six and push for Europe then it is important that we remain focused.

"Celtic are going for the title so teams are going to come here and lose, we have to keep that in mind. For us it is important now that we get this game out of our minds and concentrate on the game against Motherwell next weekend. If we do that then hopefully everything will take care of itself.
