David O the derby day hero

From Hearts News at Easter Road Stadium

The last Edinburgh derby of the season proved to be one to remember if you were wearing a maroon and white shirt.

A late winner from David Obua seal all three points for Hearts and the maroon legions enjoyed the mother of all parties.

That came after Suso Santana had earlier equalised Anthony Stokes controversial opener from the penalty mark.

Jim Jefferies made four changes to the side which lost to Motherwell. Bouzid, Craig Thomson and Suso all drop to the bench with Michael Stewart missing out on a place in the squad. Eggert Jonsson returned from suspension and Ryan Stevenson, Ian Black and Laryea Kingston all came back into the starting line-up.

The first chance of the match fell to Hearts when David Templeton created space for himself in the middle of the park and his shot forced Graeme Smith to push the ball round the post for a corner.

Hibs were next to come close when Derek Riordan unleashed a curling effort which Jamie MacDonald stretched to push out for a corner. The game started like a typical derby; fast paced with both teams trying to make their mark.

Hearts got a free kick in the 14th minute when Ian Murray blocked a Templeton cross with his hand. Kingston swung the ball in and Obua got a foot to it but it still trickled across goal before being put out for a corner.

Hibs were pressing Hearts in the first twenty minutes and Paul Hanlon passed up a great chance to open the scoring. He found himself in space in the box when a cross was played in but his header went wide of the post.

Although Hibs had a lot of possession Hearts were also pushing forward and Larry Kingston had the best chance of the game. The ball fell to him 25 yards out and his powerful shot re-bounded off the post, the ball got cleared into the air and David Obua then tried an overhead kick, it looked to be goal bound but was blocked early. Hearts weren't finished though and Templeton was next with a shot but it went across goal.

The Jambos were starting to settle into the game and Stevenson and Templeton were linking up well with good passing play and Ian Black was battling in the midfield area. However it was Hibs who came close to opening the scoring in the 38th minute. The ball fell to Liam Miller just outside the box and he kept his powerful shot low, Jamie MacDonald did well to push it away from goal and the danger was then cleared.

Hibs went in front after 52 minutes in controversial fashion after Dougie McDonald awarded a spot kick when Marius Zaliukas apparently tackled John Rankin. Replays showed there was no touch at all, but that meant nothing as Stokes stepped up an slotted home.

Just before the hour mark it appeared Hibs defender Chris Hogg had suffered a serious wrist injury after falling awkwardly. David Obua had to walk away after looking at it, nasty was the gash. However the Hibs captain came off for treatment and after getting his wrist popped back into place he returned to the field and continued playing.

Hearts were on the back foot slightly and Calum Elliot came on for Gary Glen to change things about up-front and Ryan Stevenson made way for Suso.

David Templeton, who was having a great game for Hearts down the wing, had a great chance in the 68th minute but his volley was deflected out for a corner.

The substitution decisions paid off for the management when Hearts equalised in the 71st minute. The ball came through to Elliot who chased it with Paul Hanlon, Elliot got past the keeper and laid the ball off to Suso who drilled the ball into the the back of the Hibs net. The delight of the Hearts fans and players was evident as every member of the outfield team ran to celebrate in front of the travelling fans.

The goal gave Hearts a lift and they were trying to create chances but players weren't given a lot of time on the ball and it was quite scrappy in parts although there was some good play to come from the Jambos.

The moment of glory came on 89 minutes. Marius Zaliukus found himself in unfamiliar territory as he ran through the middle of the park, he passed the ball out to Templeton who played the ball to Elliot. He returned it to Templeton who played a ball to the back post and David Obua was on hand to tap it in to the empty net.

The goal obviously meant a lot to the Ugandan who ran around the park celebrating like he'd won the World Cup. There's one way to get your name in the Hearts history books and a late winner against Hibs is up there with the best of them.

Well done David O. Well done Hearts. You were magnificent.
