'Pool's previous visit

However, the English giants were on our ground in more recent times when the Edinburgh Select forced a 2-2 draw in what was then an Annual Charity Match.

The game took place on 2 August, 1958 before a crowd of 25,000. Jimmy Murray opened the scoring for the Select after 11 minutes but on the half-hour mark, Billy Liddell smashed home the equaliser.

In 47 minutes, Liddell headed Liverpool in front and Willie Ormond scored the Select's second goal after 60 minutes. A decent contest therefore ended in a 2-2 draw.
