McGlynn praises attitude

08.12.2012

Hearts boss John McGlynn was delighted as his side recorded a deserved 2-0 win over high-flying Aberdeen in today's Clydesdale Bank Premier League encounter at Tynecastle.

Goals from Ryan Stevenson and Callum Paterson proved to be the difference as a change in formation seemed to work a treat for the Jambos.

John Sutton, Gordon Smith and Andrew Driver made their returns to the starting line-up, with youngsters Arvydas Novikovas, Jamie Walker and Callum Paterson making way.

Speaking after the match, an elated John praised the replacement players for their performances, and their attitudes shown on the pitch today.

"Great credit to Gordon and John, and Andrew Driver as well. They've not had a lot of game time recently and showed a great attitude, and they played their part well within the team setup, which meant a lot to us".

Aberdeen continued their barren run in front of goal against Hearts, with a fine rearguard performance ensuring the Dons' goalless streak extended to nine matches.

"Aberdeen started on the front foot and we were under pressure for the first ten minutes. After that, I thought we played well and we merited our victory".

Lastly, John took the time to praise Ryan Stevenson, with the deadline day signing netting his long-awaited first goal in his second spell, thumping the ball home after Ryan McGowan was fouled by Josh Magennis.

"Ryan Stevenson took his penalty really well. He was having a great game, and it was unfortunate that he couldn't continue in the second half, but it was good for Callum to come on and get us that cushion. We defended well and stayed solid in the last 20 minutes".

"I was pleased for Ryan to get his goal. I was desperate to get him when he became available because his attitude is first class. We've not had much luck with penalties, and anyone can miss one so it was a well taken strike. We're delighted for him".
