Ross: Hibs are kings of capital

Caldwell claims a shift in power

ROSS CALDWELL claimed his Edinburgh derby winner proved the tide has turned between the capital clubs.

The hitkid struck to give Hibs an unbeaten derby record for only the second time in 35 SEASONS. But Jambos defender Darren Barr blasted back, insisting it will take the Hibees YEARS to show they are top dogs.

Talented Caldwell, 19, can now boast eight goals in eight games against Hearts at various age levels and he said: “It’s a great achievement to end the season undefeated in the derbies.

“The tide is turning — we’re undefeated and now we’ve got a win at Tynecastle.

“Hopefully we will start next season the way we’ve finished here.

“I believe the balance of power is beginning to shift. It hasn’t completely shifted, not just because we’ve gone one season undefeated, but it’s getting there.”

Defiant Barr rejected Caldwell’s claims that Hibs now hold the capital’s bragging rights.

He said: “I don’t think the balance of power has shifted at all. That’s just talk. They may have dominated at times, but they have to beat us for years and years to claim that.”

Caldwell won’t give Barr’s comments a second glance though, having earned his reward for 90 minutes of unselfish running.

He kept his cool to curl in a sensational clincher and strengthen his case for a Scottish Cup Final slot against Celtic.

He added: “I don’t think you can sum up what it’s like to score a derby winner in the last minute. It’s an unbelievable feeling.

“I got cramp at the bottom of the pile in the celebration!

“Cup Final selection isn’t playing on my mind and I’ve got two games to play. But I’ll do my best and if that gives the manager a headache, that’s brilliant.

“Every player wants to be involved in the final.”

It was a double disappointment for Barr, who was making his last appearance as a Hearts player at Tynecastle with his contract up at the end of the season.

The Scotland cap groaned: “It’s horrible that my last game at Tynecastle ended like that.”
