Callum's Robbo reward

12.08.2013

Derby dynamo Callum Paterson scored the best goal of his short career so far as his thumping header earned Hearts a memorable victory over Hibs in Sunday's Scottish Premiership encounter at Tynecastle on Sunday.

The teenage striker rushed to the near post ahead of his marker to thunder a header beyond the despairing Ben Williams, and in doing so sent a sold out Tynecastle crowd into hysterical joy.

Watched by striking coach John Robertson - who Callum credited for his goal - as he chatted to the press, the 18-year-old proclaimed it his "number one goal", before sheepishly pointing out he'd only scored 4 others before Sunday!

When one journalist joked that he had "never seen Robbo fly through the air" like that to score, Callum actually revealed the goal was part of his training practice on Friday with the legendary Gorgie striker.

"That's what we worked on during the week", he explained. "On Friday, we were working on headers at the front post, so maybe Robbo can get some of the credit! It was all about near post runs, and getting there before your marker, so it's worked brilliantly".

Despite suggestions that this young Hearts side might be feeling pressure in trying to overhaul their 15 point deduction this season, the Hearts no.12 refuted that, saying the belief in the side was so strong, they didn't feel any pressure or expectation on their inexperienced shoulders.

"We weren't under any pressure today, even with the deficit we have. We've got it down to 12 points now. The boys have so much belief, and it's just grown even more after today".

"Everyone was pumped up today. The dressing room's buzzing, all the lads are cheesing right now. We played the way we wanted to, and we were the better side, we deserved the win".

Lastly, the striker joined a long line of figures keen to thank the magnificent Heart of Midlothian support for their efforts in keeping Hearts beating.

"We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the fans this summer", Callum said. "We need to keep playing well and get the results to keep them on our side and keep them happy, we're all here because of them".
