Warning for Hearts

3 Aug 1996

MATT Le Tissier will be the Southampton man Hearts have to keep an eye on at Tynecastle this afternoon as they complete the build-up to their Cup-winners' Cup tie against Red Star Belgrade.

But the Tynecastle players have been warned by manager Jim Jefferies that it is the more unfamiliar name of Zoran Jovicic who will be the dangerman in Yugoslavia on Thursday night.

Jefferies watched the striker score all four Red Star goals in the 4-0 win over Podgorica in a cup-tie on Wednesday night, but, despite the impressive scoreline, the Hearts manager is far from pessimistic about his team's chances.

"Red Star were playing third division opposition and are a good side, but they are not invincible," said Jefferies, whose talks with Pasquale Bruno yesterday ended with the Italian defender agreeing to stay at Tynecastle.

The game with Southampton will give Jefferies another chance to make sure his trio of new faces - Jeremy Goss, Neil McCann, and David Weir - get some much needed match practice before Thursday.

But keeper Gilles Rousset is still doubtful with the groin injury which kept him out of the midweek match with Porto
