McKenna at the double for Canada

HEARTS’ Kevin McKenna hit a double in Canada’s 2-0 win over Haiti as his country opened their Gold Cup campaign.

The Tynecastle defender, who celebrates his 22nd birthday today, was deployed as a striker for the first time at international level, and responded by scoring on 28 and 49 minutes at the Orange Bowl in Miami.

Manager Helger Osieck said: "Kevin performed really well and seeing him playing in attack and scoring gives us another option."

Hearts manager Craig Levein has also used the centre-back as a striker this season, and the player has netted six goals.

Canada also featured Scots-based stars Davide Xausa, Nick Dasovic and Richard Hastings but face a stiff task in their final group match against Ecuador tomorrow.
