Severin to get report on injury

MARK BONTHRONE

HEARTS were today due to find out the extent of Scott Severin’s groin problem after the midfielder underwent a scan.

The problem has dogged the 24-year-old for much of this season and he was forced to miss Tuesday night’s 2-1 win against Dundee at Dens Park.

Severin saw a specialist yesterday and the results should give a better indication as to the exact nature of the injury and the best way to treat it.

Levein will be keeping his fingers crossed that the results are positive with Severin being one of the Jambos’ best performers in recent weeks in the absence of some of the more experienced squad members.

The Hearts boss said: "Scott saw a specialist who looked at the groin problem and we would hope to have a better idea of how he is today at some point."

With Severin likely to miss tomorrow’s Tennent’s Scottish Cup third round clash with Berwick and Jean-Louis Valois and Steven Boyack definitely out, Levein is sweating over the fitness of Phil Stamp and Kevin McKenna.

Stamp picked up a calf strain at Dens Park in midweek while McKenna is struggling to shake of the effects of a back problem that ruled him out of the trip to Tayside.

Levein said: "We will probably leave it until tomorrow before naming the team so we can make a decision on these players.

"At the moment I would say it is unlikely that they will play but we will have to wait and see how they are.

"If they don’t make it we have guys that have played a few games for us already so at least it’s not like we will be putting in rookies."
