Hearts fans to unite behind Romanov

HEARTS fans have joined forces to give their backing to the new Vladimir Romanov era at Tynecastle.

In an unprecedented show of unity, the Fans’ Forum, Shareholders’ Association, Supporters’ Trust and Federation of Hearts Supporters’ Clubs, have all agreed to work together to help the Lithuanian’s revolution transform the fortunes of the Gorgie club.

In previous years the four groups have not always seen eye to eye on policies or direction. However, encouraged by the dawn of a new era under Baltic millionaire Romanov, the respective organisations met recently and agreed to focus on helping develop a rosier future for the Jambos.

"Although it is important that each organisation retains its identity and purpose, it is equally important at the beginning of this new era for the club that we work together for its future success," said John Borthwick, Federation secretary.

"We have collectively requested a meeting with Mr Romanov and his representatives to enable them to explain in greater detail their vision for the future and for supporters to express their views on the future direction of the club."

Speaking on behalf of the Trust, chairman Martin Laidlaw said the new spirit of togetherness could only be good for the development of the Tynecastle institution.

"The meeting of the four organisations was very worthwhile and demonstrates the desire of Hearts supporters to work together with the board," he said.

His sentiments were echoed by the chairman of the Shareholders’ Association, Ray French. He said: "Whether you are a director, a shareholder, a supporter or a fan - or all of those rolled into one - there are clearly some common goals that we should all work to see achieved."

The Forum is equally encouraged by the willingness of all parties to work together, chairman Stuart Crosbie adding: "In a spirit of co-operation the Hearts family can be re-united and the club move to a new level."

The Shareholders’ Association, meanwhile, has raised almost £3000 to help improve the club’s training facilities. The money will be presented to boss John Robertson at a dinner tomorrow night.
