Ex-Hearts striker Burchill joins Pars on two-year deal

BARRY ANDERSON

MARK BURCHILL secured a two-year contract with Dunfermline today after passing a morning medical at East End Park.

Talks between the former Hearts striker and the Fife club were revealed in yesterday's Evening News and he has now secured a two-year contract after spurning the offer of a 12-month deal from Hearts last month.

Chairman John Yorkston said: "We have signed Mark Burchill on a two-year contract. I would regard it as a major signing and I would hope this is the place where he can rekindle the form he showed when he was at Celtic in his early days, when he was superb. This is an exciting signing for the club and I'm sure the fans will be delighted. We hope he brings us goals."

Dunfermline hope to further inject their attack with new blood after agreeing to bring Polish striker Maciej Nuckowski to Fife on trial and Slovakian international Tomas Orvac is also training in Fife this week.

Meanwhile, Livingston have denied reports in Ireland linking them with an approach for Shamrock Rovers midfielder Pat McCourt.

An Almondvale source said: "We have been made aware of him but we have not initiated any contact. He hasn't been here at all and I can't see him coming."
