BEDNAR FACING LENGTHY LAY-OFF

Hearts' flying start to the new season hit a stumbling block today with the news that Roman Bednar could be out of action for between one and two months.

The Czech striker will have an operation on his knee tomorrow after a scans showed he had sustained cartilage damage during Saturday's 1-0 victory over Rangers at Tynecastle.

A spokesperson for Hearts confirmed: "Roman Bednar was seen by a specialist today following a scan yesterday afternoon.

"It was confirmed he has suffered cartilage damage and will require an operation which will take place tomorrow.

"It is likely that Roman could be out for between four and six weeks."

Bednar helped Hearts maintain their 100% league record when he netted the only goal of the game against the champions.

But joy quickly turned to disappointment when he limped out of the action sparking fears of a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Bank of Scotland Premier League leaders Hearts are enjoying their best start to a league campaign for over 90 years but they will now be without Bednar for at least a month.

The 22-year-old described how he heard a "cracking" sound when he made contact with Rangers defender Marvin Andrews.
