HEARTS KINGS OF THE 'CASTLE

Hearts celebrated 120 years at Tynecastle with a comfortable 4-0 home win over Dunfermline in the Bank of Scotland Premier League.

First-half goals by Michal Pospisil, Roman Bednar and Saulius Mikoliunas gave the rampant Jambos a convincing interval lead.

The hapless Pars never looked like recovering from their first-half nightmare but restricted the home side to just one more goal by substitute Juho Makela with minutes remaining.

To add to the Fifers' misery, youngster Greg Ross was then given a straight red card for his strong challenge on Aguiar.

Rangers kept the pressure on Hearts for second place by taking all three points from Motherwell thanks to a 1-0 win.

Kris Boyd grabbed the only goal in what proved a flat affair.

Aberdeen secured their place in the top six by defeating Hibernian 1-0 thanks to a stunning Scott Severin goal at Pittodrie.

The former Hearts' midfielder capitalised on a loose defensive header from Chris Hogg following a Ferne Snoyl corner in the 21st minute and executed a fine right-footed volley which found the top left-hand corner of Zbigniew Malkowski's net.

Hibs' best opportunity came in the 32nd minute from a Derek Riordan free-kick, but Jamie Langfield thwarted the striker with a good save at his far post.

Falkirk finally claimed their first SPL home win of the season thanks to a first-half strike from Jack Ross which gave them a 1-0 victory over Dundee United and moved them out of the bottom two.

John Hughes' side had not previously won at home in the league at the Falkirk Stadium since they clinched last season's First Division title against Ross County more than a year ago.

The defeat means Dundee United's poor form on the road continues, with Craig Brewster's side having failed to win in their last 11 away games.

In the day's final game Livingston came from behind to pick up their first league win since December with a 2-1 success over Inverness at Almondvale which closed the gap between themselves and Dunfermline at the bottom to eight points.

Ross Tokely fired Inverness into a 16th-minute lead against the run of play but Richard Brittain equalised before the break.

The second half was a tense affair but Colin Healy, in his first start, scored the winning goal 10 minutes from time to give manager John Robertson his first points since taking over at the helm two months ago.
