HEARTS WON'T COUGH UP FOR MEYONG

HEARTS appear to have been priced out of a move for Cameroon international hitman Albert Meyong.

He has a year left on his contract at Portuguese club Belenenses, who have just b een relegated from the top flight, and the club have invoked a clause which states he cannot leave for less than £1 .7million.

Sports Record understands Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov was unwilling to break the £1m barrier for Meyong and the player's agent, Paulo Teixeira, insisted Auxerre are now favourites to land the striker after Hearts failed to follow up their interest.

Teixeira said: "Hearts seemed to have started the process and haven't finished it. My feeling is that the deal may be dead.

"We were contacted by the club and told they wanted to strike a deal but nothing has happened since then and there has been no negotiations.

"Hearts did not follow up their initial interest and so that is why I am led to believe Albert will not be joining them.

"It is not a problem for us because we had many others who wanted to sign him and we are dealing with Auxerre right now. We are hopeful business can be done but everything and anything is possible."

There also appears to have been no progress in Hearts' interest in South Korean midfielder Ahn Jung-Hwan - the MSV Duisburg player who burst on to the scene at the 2002 World Cup in his homeland when he scored the controversial quarter-final winner against Italy.

Meanwhile, the Tynecastle club are still awaiting news from Michal Pospisil after the Czech star flew to Norway at the weekend to discuss a possible move to Stabaek. He has promised a decision next week.
