WE WON'T LOSE OUT IN THE SALES

JAMBOS IN TUNE FOR MARKET
By Gary Ralston

JOHN McGLYNN has assured Hearts fans they will not be left behind in the summer sales.

The Old Firm have already started their rebuilding for the new season with the capture of players such as Kenny Miller at Celtic and Karl Svensson at Rangers.

The Scottish Cup holders have been linked with several new signings but have yet to move to bolster their squad for the Champions League.

Hearts have told midfielders Lee Johnson and Chris Hackett they are surplus to requirements.

McGlynn reckons the squad will be trimmed still further in the next few weeks but it will also be boosted by the addition of three or four quality operators.

He said: "In an ideal world it would make sense to bring in new players soon so they can get used to their team-mates and our style of play.

"The Champions League qualifiers are at the end of July and they are so important for us.

"In hindsight, we brought in too many new players in January - maybe three or four top-quality players would have been better. I'm sure we'll look to bring in three or four new players this time but, again, it's about quality rather than quantity.

"We have the numbers to cope with the rigours of competing on several fronts which, in the past, has let other teams down but we've also got to increase the quality.

"It's equally important we're not rushed. Takis Fyssas, for example, didn't join us until a couple of games into the new season so we might have to wait to bring in players of a similar calibre.

"We also hope to have players such as Neil McCann back in action by mid-July."

McGlynn was speaking as he teamed up with Edinburgh songwriters Davie Paton and Kenny Herbert to launch an updated version of the Hearts song.

It has been used as the soundtrack to the club's new DVD, Glorious, which will be premiered at the Dominion Cinema in the capital on Sunday. Paton knows all about composing football songs - he inadvertently gave the game one of the best.

The former member of Scots b and Pilot, who had a huge hit with January, also made the top 10 with It's Magic.

Paton said: "I wrote it 35 years ago and it's still being used in everything from football chants to movies."

Herbert said: "We've given our version of the Hearts song a faster pace and it captures the ambience of the club."
