BREW PRE-PARES FOR COMEBACK

CRAIG BREWSTER has been leading by example at Dundee United's gruelling pre-season training camp as he prepares for his return from injury.

The 39-year-old player-boss hasn't been involved in competitive action since breaking his foot in his first game for the Tannadice side in January.

But Brewster has been putting his all into regaining full fitness as he and the rest of his squad are put thought their paces at St Andrews.

And he could play in a friendly against Raith Rovers at Stark's Park a week today.

Brewster, above, is determined to combine the roles of striker and manager in his first full season in the job. He said: "The leg feels fine and there's been no reaction in the training so far.

"When you've been out for such a long time there's never any easy way back.

"It's still a bit early to say I'll play at Raith but failing that I would certainly hope to figure in the pre-season tour of Denmark.

"As you get older it can become that bit harder and when you have off-field pressures to deal with as well it's even more of a challenge.

"But it's one I'm relishing and that's why pre-season is so important not just for me but for all the players."

Brewster hopes to find out early in the week whether new Hearts boss Valdas Ivanauskas is willing to let top target Lee Wallace move to Tannadice on loan next season.

The 18-year-old has been earmarked by the Arabs to solve their problem left-back slot.

Meanwhile, chairman Eddie Thompson's arrival back from holiday is expected to kick-start more talks aimed at agreeing severance packages with out-of-favour trio Jim McIntyre, David Fernandez, and Paul Ritchie.
