'Hearts not a great club,' says Pinilla

MAURICIO Pinilla, the Chilean striker due to sign with Hearts on loan, last night offered the bizarre observation that he feels the Tynecastle side are "not a great club".

The Sporting Lisbon forward, who is set to join Hearts for this season - once he passes a medical - has already claimed that he will use the club as a stepping stone for a move to the English Premiership.

Now, in an interview with a Chilean newspaper, he has introduced himself to the Edinburgh club with a somewhat derogatory remark. Pinilla said: "I am the best player in Chile and no-one can argue with that. I have undertaken all the medical tests and will sign for Hearts. I know Hearts are not a great club, but I have been impressed with what I have seen so far.

"Things have been complicated for me since I left Chile four years ago. I thought European football would be easier. However, I was mistaken - it is difficult. But I am determined to show my critics once and for all that I am a good player."

Pinilla has also played with Inter Milan, Chievo, Celta Vigo and Racing Santander.
