JAMBOS CAN HIT JACKPOT

FORMER Hearts chief exec-utive Phil Anderton has backed the Jambos for title glory this season - if Vladimir Romanov splashes the cash.

Money hasn't been an issue for the Lithuanian but Anderton insisted he will have to keep spending if the league is to be won.

He said: "Hearts could win the title if they invest more money on players.

"It's not rocket science that the more you spend the better your challenge is."

Anderton was axed in October by Romanov after eight months - following ex-boss George Burley who was sacked 10 days before.

Hearts managed to qualify for the Champions League and win the Scottish Cup under Graham Rix then current boss Valdas Ivanauskas - but Anderton wonders what might have been had Burley stayed.

He added: "It was a great achievement but it would have been interesting to see what would have happened had George Burley still been the manager.

"My view is had Burley been given the authority to bring in the players they thought would be beneficial to the club, they could well have challenged for the title.

"The players did well to keep focused but all the changes must have had some kind of impact."
