ELVIS IS KING BUT I HOPE HE HEADS FOR HEARTBREAK HOTEL

John Potter

ROBBIE WILLIAMS may be every parent's nightmare as a role model - Elvis on the other hand is the perfect example to us all.

I went along to Hampden to watch the fat dancer from Take That last weekend and all the classics were getting an airing.

My team-mate Ian Maxwell held his lighter in the air as Robbie belted out Angels and then bounced around to Let Me Entertain You.

He had a ball and my wife Caroline tried to lead me away from our star-struck defender. This weekend though I'll be coming face to face with a real superstar - Steven Pressley.

We travel to Edinburgh to face Hearts and their skipper has just notched up a milestone of being the club's most-capped player of all time.

When I was a youngster at Celtic I looked up to men like Alan Stubbs and Marc Rieper as they were everything I wanted to be in a defender.

I couldn't have asked for better people to try to emulate and Steven falls into that category.

Every youngster should look up to a player who leads by example and conducts himself in an exemplary manner.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Elvis as he's held his side together during the recent turbulent times at the club.

Even as I watched him play for Scotland during our magnificent start to the Euro 2008 campaign I couldn't help but be impressed by him.

He was a rock at the back and I was screaming my support for him as we held out over in Lithuania - but that won't happen on Saturday.

He is the top man at Hearts and I can't wait for the game as I've been desperate to play at Tynecastle for years.

Losing our last game against Dundee United before the break was a major disappointment for us all and we're itching to get the result out of the system.

In an ideal world we wouldn't have had to wait so long to play our next game but it has allowed us to draw breath after a hectic start to life in the SPL. We have taken far more positives than negatives in the games we've played and we now have a much better idea of what's required to make sure we hold our own in the top flight. Love Street was quiet during the week of the transfer window closing and I think that's a compliment to the squad of players we have at St Mirren.

We had a few of the lads posted on sentry duty at the door of the main entrance to try to spot any strange faces.

The manager is great at giving nothing away so we thought we'd steal a march on him by trying to spot his new signings but they never materialised.

Hopefully that means the gaffer is happy with what he's got and didn't feel the need to add to the squad.

We've been lucky so far on the injury front and we've not suffered any suspensions which is vital to our chances of having a good season.

There are two or three players on the fringes of the first team who could come in and easily do a job at SPL level so we are in good shape.

We know it's going to be a tough test at Tynecastle but we'll make sure we make the trip back with no regrets.
