Lasley backs Well to placate the boo boys

MOTHERWELL midfielder Keith Lasley insists a win over Hearts next weekend would help get Fir Park fans back on their side.

The Steelmen were booed off the park by their own supporters after Saturday's 4-1 defeat to Inverness, a result which leaves them at the foot of the SPL table and with just three points from their opening six games.

They face Hearts at Fir Park next weekend and Lasley is hoping to give the supporters something to cheer instead of jeer against Valdas Ivanauskas' men.

He said: "The whole team has got to take responsibility and we have got to start showing that. Hearts at home is our next game and it is massive for us.

"It's in front of our own fans again and we've got to give them something to think about. We've got to stick together and we will. We can't dwell on this defeat. Hopefully we can give the fans something to shout about."

Ross Tokely opened the scoring for Inverness with 25 minutes gone and they doubled their lead after the breakthrough Craig Dargo. Motherwell reduced the deficit with 18 minutes left through Scott McDonald, but any hopes they had of a fight-back were wiped out when Grant Munro and substitute Rory McAllister rounded off the scoring.

Returning hero Stevie Crawford fired himself straight back into the hearts of Dunfermline fans with an 84th-minute winner in a nail-biting 3-2 win over Kilmarnock.

The striker, making his first appearance at East End Park since re-signing for the club from Aberdeen, earned all three points for the Pars despite them falling behind twice to Jim Jefferies' side.

Danny Invincibile had given Killie the lead before Darren Young levelled for Dunfermline, but the Rugby Park men edged in front again through Gary Wales.

However, Dunfermline weren't finished there, and Gary Mason cancelled that goal out, setting the stage for Crawford to cut inside Gordon Greer as time ticked away and slot through keeper Graeme Smith's legs.

Meanwhile, Celtic maintained their one-point lead over Rangers at the top of the table thanks to their 1-0 defeat of Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

New signing Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scored the only goal of the game, finally breaching a defence that had been superbly marshalled by Russell Anderson, in 79 minutes.
