Thorarinsson goes to Raith Rovers

Raith Rovers have signed Hearts striker Hjalmar Thorarinsson on an emergency temporary transfer until January.

The 20-year-old has made six first-team appearances for the Tynecastle side but featured just once last season.

The Icelandic youngster scored on his Hearts debut - the 2005 CIS Insurance Cup semi-final, but has failed to find the net on his other run-outs.

Rovers turned to Thorarinsson after Jason Dair rejected them in favour of a move to East Fife.

The former Motherwell, Dunfermline and Livignston midfielder, who was a free agent chose Rovers' Third Division Fife rivals.

And Stark's Park manager Craig Levein said: "There was no fall-out, we shook hands and I wished him well but it is a pity because he is the type of player we are looking for.

"There are a few players we are tracking but we need people who are going to make an immediate impact."

Thorarinsson will be in the squad to face Ayr United on Saturday.
