GOW: I'LL TAKE NEXT PENALTYBy Scott Mcdermott RELIEVED Alan Gow feared being Falkirk's CIS Cup fall guy after missing a penalty at Celtic - but he has vowed to take the Bairns next spot-kick. The striker admits he was worried he would be the man to cost John Hughes' side a place in the semi-finals after his penalty was saved by Artur Boruc. It was the Bairns' fifth kick of the dramatic shoot-out at Parkhead and gave Kenny Miller the chance to win it for the Hoops. But the Scotland hitman blew it and Yogi's team eventually came out on top thanks to Evander Sno's miss in what was the 14th attempt from the spot. Falkir know face Kilmarnock in the semifinals and Gow reckons it could be the club's best ever chance to get their hands on some sliverware. He said: "It could be the best chance we'll get with both Old Firm clubs already knocked out. "We're delighted to be in the semi-final and feel we can go and win it which would be really special. "I'm especially pleased because I missed one of the penalties against Celtic and thought I might be the guy to cost us a victory. "But thankfully the boys pulled it out the bag and our goalkeeper Jeroen Lambers was brilliant when he was called upon. "I'll definitely hit our next penalty if I need to. "I've taken loads of them in my career and never been fazed - it was just unfortunate to miss one in such a big game. "But beating Celtic was probably the best feeling I've had in football. "And it's also great to help Falkirk into a semi-final because they haven't been in one for a while." It has been 32 years to be exact but despite the absence of Rangers, Celtic and Hearts, Gow knows that Killie under shrewd boss Jim Jefferies will be a tough nut to crack. He said: "Kilmarnock have done well this season. "They've consolidated themselves in the top half of the SPL so it won't be easy against them. "They have quality players and will believe they can win the tournament as well. "We won't be taking anything for granted." Taken from the Sunday Mail |
