ROVERS LOOK AT HEARTS NO.2

TYNECASTLE IN TURMOIL...
By Alan Marshall

JOHN McGLYNN could be offered an escape route from the madness at Hearts after being placed on the shortlist for the Raith Rovers job.

The Tynecastle No.2 was recommended by former Hearts boss Craig Levein on his departure from Kirkcaldy for Dundee United last month and McGlynn is thought to be top of the Stark's Park board's wanted list.

He is understood to have become increasingly frustrated at the off-field turmoil this season, with controversial owner Vladimir Romanov having yesterday installed Lithuanian Eugenijus Riabovas as his seventh head coach in only 21 months.

The furore created by Steven Pressley's failure to feature against Falkirk on Monday night and the farcical lines of communication in a dugout featuring non-English speaking coaches and a translator will only have strengthened McGlynn's desire to find a way out of the mess.

Second Division Raith Rovers have drawn up a six-man shortlist in their search for a successor to Levein and were busy conducting interviews yesterday in a bid to have the new man in place later this week.

Club secretary Eric Drysdale said: "We are in the process of speaking to candidates but a decision has not yet been taken.

"We are taking our time and speaking to the various people and still hope to be able to make an appointment within the next few days.

"We want someone in sooner, rather than later."

Former player Craig Brewster no longer appears to be in the running.

Stirling Albion boss Allan Moore, who has been linked with the job now vacant at Airdrie United, was also considered but has been discounted.
