Solidarity grows in Le Guen’s ranks
MARK WILSON
PAUL LE GUEN, the Rangers manager, pinpointed the growing sense of unity within the Ibrox ranks as the crucial factor in their 1-0 win at Tynecastle.
Le Guen's team returned to second place in the Bank of Scotland Premierleague thanks to Nacho Novo's goal in the 78th minute of a match which often resembled a war of attrition. It secured the first back-to-back victories in the SPL under Le Guen's management.
"I think the team spirit is getting better all the time, on and off the pitch," said the Frenchman. "We showed character and solidarity today.
"It is not a surprise for me that this is happening because we had many new players and the team bonding is better now. This result could give us a lift. We took a little step against Dunfermline last week and perhaps this is a bigger one today. But we must keep our humility and continue to work hard because that is the only way to achieve success in football."
Le Guen praised Novo's tenacity and also feels the defensive partnership between Brahim Hemdani and Karl Svensson may be starting to gel more effectively.
"Nacho likes Rangers, that is obvious, and he gives all that he can for the club," said Le Guen, whose side now face Auxerre in the UEFA Cup on Thursday. "He gained reward for all his efforts.
"We were also very good defensively. Hearts did not have many real chances, just a couple of counter-attacks and set-pieces."
