MALOFEEV HAS WORST RECORD OF ALL MANAGERS

EDUARD Malofeev has the worst record of any Hearts manager since the post was created at the start of the last century.

His five matches in charge produced two draws and three defeats, whereas every previous manager, including caretakers, has been able to win at least one of their first five games.

The closest anyone has come to matching Malofeev is Frank Moss's record on taking over in 1937. He lost his first three games - but then made amends somewhat by winning the next 12 in a row.

More recently, John McGlynn lost both matches in his first spell as caretaker at the end of the 2004-05 season. When he took over again following the dismissal of George Burley, however, he won three out of four. One consolation for Malofeev is that the run of seven games without a win which Hearts are currently undergoing is far from the worst.

From December 1998 until the following April they had a run of 13 matches which were either lost or drawn. This equalled the worst run in the club's history, from season 1960-61.
