Velička voted Lithuania's No1
Wednesday, 22 November 2006
Heart of Midlothian FC forward Andrius Velička has been named the Lithuanian A Lyga's Player of the Year for the second time after scoring 14 goals in 23 games in the 2006 season while playing for FBK Kaunas.
Two-time winner
Velička, also the winner in 2000, claimed the award decided by the Lithuanian Football Federation ahead of FK Ekranas captain Mantas Savenas, with FK Sūduva's Darius Maciulevicius third. The 27-year-old, who has been capped seven times by Lithuania, moved to Scottish Premier League side Hearts in September in a loan deal. He has registered five goals in nine appearances for the Edinburgh team. "I would like to continue playing in Scotland as the football is much interesting here than in my homeland," said Velička.
