HEARTS CANNET HLEB(No, not that one... it's his wee brother) By Gary Ralston THE brother of Arsenal star Alexander Hleb jets into Scotland next week for signing talks with Hearts. The Jambos are ready to sign Vyacheslav Hleb more than a year after they were first linked with the Belarus marksman. The striker, 23, is two years younger than his famous brother and was once even considered a better prospect by the Gunners ace. However, his career has failed to reach the same heights as his sibling, who moved to Highbury 18 months ago in a £10million deal from Stuttgart. Hleb junior plays for the Vladimir Romanov-backed MTZ Ripo Minsk in his homeland but hopes to secure a switch to Tynecastle in the January transfer window when he arrives for talks next Friday. Agent Nikolai Spilevski told Record Sport: "Vyacheslav will be in Scotland for discussions on December 15. Everything will be decided after that date." Advertisement The Jambos target started his career with hometown club Dinamo Minsk before switching to Stuttgart with his brother. He had subsequent spells with Grasshoppers and Hamburg and returned to MTZ Ripo on loan from the Bundesliga club 18 months ago before the transfer was made permanent. He has 13 caps for his country, including an appearance against Scotland in the recent World Cup qualifiers, and has scored three goals. He and his brothers are superstars in their homeland and have fought their way through grinding poverty to make it in football. Romanov hopes the arrival of Hleb will help appease fans who fear his project is stalling after the gains made last season. Coach Valdas Ivanauskas hopes to restructure his side for the second half of the season as they are without a win in nine games and are now sixth in the SPL. Meanwhile, Paul Hartley has refuted claims he handed in a transfer request in the summer and is threatening to quit the club next month. His agent Mark Donaghy has issued a denial. He said: "Paul did not hand in a transfer request in the summer, nor has one been handed in at any time since." ![]() Taken from the Daily Record |
