Guessing game starts for LeveinROBERT THOMSON December 20 2006 There was a time when Craig Levein could name the Hearts team easily, but the Dundee United manager admits it is almost impossible to predict what line-up the Edinburgh team will send out these days. He made a name for himself by guiding Hearts to third place in the Premier League against the backdrop of financial cuts, but his approach was different to that of today's Vladimir Romanov regime. Levein's Hearts were build on solid foundations, a far cry from the unpredictable way of life in Edinburgh now as he prepares to face his former club for the first time since returning to Scotland to manage United. "It's almost impossible to predict Hearts' line-up at times but obviously one thing I hope is that Paul Hartley is still out," said Levein. "Like Jimmy Calderwood said last week, if you look at the team sheet and see Hartley is not involved, it gives you a lift straight away. "I hope he's not even on the bench and that's because he's such a quality player. What we are going to do is prepare as though Hearts will play their top players. Playing them is a different challenge to what we faced against Motherwell last week so I'll attempt to work out how Hearts are going to play before I decide on how to set up my own team." United, who are minus the injured Noel Hunt, have Christian Kalvenes suspended having picked up a red card at Fir Park. Levein is mulling over whether to continue with Steven Robb at left back or switch Lee Mair from his central position. "I've not made up my mind about who I'm going to play at left back yet but I've got Lee Mair and Steven Robb so there are a couple of options," said Levein. "Steven is versatile and it's always good to have someone like that in your squad. "He has been out for a few months but came back in and did well against Motherwell." ![]() Taken from the Herald |
