Hibees Hijack Jambo Target

Gary Ralston

HIBS have nipped in to try to hijack a deal for Hearts target Denes Rosa.

The Hungarian midfielder has been training with Mixu Paatelainen's squad since Tuesday following his release from his contract at Wolves.

The Easter Road boss invited him to Edinburgh after the Championship club cut him loose and Rosa, 31, immediately drove north from the Midlands with his family. He was due to spend this week at the club and if Paatelainen likes what he sees he'll deal him in.

Rosa has found first-team opportunities limited in the last two seasons as a result of injury and loss of form that kept him out of Wolves manager Mick McCarthy's plans at Molineux.

His arrival at Hibs is a blow for Jambos boss Csaba Laszlo who was keen to be reunited with his former Ferencvaros skipper.

Laszlo listed Rosa as a signing target in an interview in the Hungarian media before Christmas.

And Rosa admitted to Record Sport at the time he would jump at the chance to be reunited with his good friend.

However, it appears Hearts are not in a position to deal at the moment as Vladimir Romanov bids to rein in his spending during the transfer window.

Players such as Christophe Berra, Marius Zaliukas, Andy Driver and Bruno Aguiar are available for transfer as the Jambos aim to cut hefty wage costs.

Laszlo hopes some money will be released this month to strengthen his side's chances of a top-six finish and maybe even push for a European spot.

However, it seems players must be moved on before Romanov will consider loosening the purse strings again.
