How the Hearts players performed at Tynecastle

Moira Gordon
MARIAN KELLO
The busier of the two keepers there was very little the Hearts man could do as the very last line of defence. All the goals were well crafted and he was far from culpable as the defence- splitting passes, touch and pace of the Spurs players left him one on one all too often. 6
JAMIE HAMMILL
Totally exposed by the quality of guys like Gareth Bale and, although he edged into the game and found a surer footing once Tottenham had the gresult sewn up and eased off slightly, it's a night he's unlikely to want to relive. 5

ANDY WEBSTER
The movement and the interplay of the Tottenham Hotspur attackers left him spinning on the spot at times. Never really in control of any situation and stuggled alongside his centre-back partrner to get to grips with the sheer quality of the men that they were up against. 5

MARIUS ZALIUKAS
One of many tortured souls in maroon. Up against a calibre of players several levels above them, he, like many of his team-mates spent most of the evening chasing shadows and desperately trying to simply minimise th damage. Too often dallied against a team too spritely and tenancious to let him away with such a leisurely approach. 5

DANNY GRAINGER
As far as Hearts defenders go, he outshone his team-mates. Stuck to his task and, up against young Aaron Lennon that wasn't always enough, but he showed grit and determination and battled on until the end. Gave his side some assistance in attack with his long throw-ins and set-piece deliveries. 6

DAVID TEMPLETON
Very quiet first half, he upped his game after the interval to give the Tottenham full-back something to worry about. Expressing himself with more self-belief he was happy to try running at Walker and Dawson and was almost through in the 58th minute for what would have been a lovely goal. 6

IAN BLACK
In a midfield where the likes of Kranjcar was king, Ian Black refused to bow to reputations or give up at any stage of the game, no matter how damaging the scoreline got. Tackled like a dervish and set an example to his team-mates by chasing down every ball and making sure that the guests were given as little space as possible in which to play. 7

RYAN STEVENSON
One of Hearts best performers on a night when the opposition was just too good. 18 months ago he was playing the likes of Brechin but, against one of the Premier League's best teams, the midfielder, left, wasn't cowed. He worked tirelessly and, as Hearts showed a greater potency in the second half, he was the man unleashing a battery of shots at the Spurs goal. 7

ADRIAN MROWIEC
Given the thankless task of trying to contain Van Der Vaart and snuff out the passing prowess of Kranjcar in the middle of the park, he ran his legs off but was still left a pace or two behind the main men as they gave the Tynecastle side a masterclass in just how technically-gifted, high tempo football should be played. 5

ANDY DRIVER
An exceedingly-tough match for the winger given his lack of fitness. An impotent figure in the first half, he benefited from the half-time interval. Whether it was the breather it afforded him or some inspiring words from his gaffer, he did show a greater directness after the break and pressed forward more convincingly as Hearts enjoyed more possession. 5

JOHN SUTTON
Failed to get to grips with the match as it flew by him at a rate of knots. Struggled to get a foothold in the play but used his physical presence to try to upset the guests and never stopped challenging. Just didn't see enough of the ball to do any major damage. 5

SUBS

STEPHEN ELLIOTT
On for Andy Driver in the 64th minute. Forced a save from Gomes in the 76th minute. 4

RUDI SKACEL
On for John Sutton in the 74th minute. 4

DAVID OBUA
On for Mrowiec in the 81st minute. 4
