Calum Elliot cleared for Dundee return after knee checks

CALUM Elliot could return to action as soon as this weekend after being given the all-clear by Hearts’ medical staff.

The striker was carried off just 30 seconds into his debut for Dundee against Raith Rovers on Saturday, just a day after signing a one-month loan deal at Dens Park.

Elliot had been out for seven months following knee surgery and it was feared he had suffered a serious recurrence of his past problems. Although Dundee won the match 1-0, there was little appetite for celebration among Elliot’s team-mates.

But he has been able to walk properly in the last 48 hours and a precautionary scan showed up no damage.

Elliot will now return to Dundee on Thursday and could even feature against Morton at the weekend.

Dundee manager Barry Smith said: “The Hearts medical staff have had a good look at Calum and thankfully it isn’t as bad as it may have looked at the time.

“It’s absolutely fantastic news for him and he’s going to come back to us on Thursday. I’ll have a good look at him in training then we’ll decide if he’s going to play a part at the weekend.”
