Rudi: There’s only one team in Edinburgh

By DAVID FRIEL

RUDI SKACEL destroyed Hibs then beamed: There’s only one team in Edinburgh.

Hearts hero Skacel marked his farewell Jambos appearance with a double as they hammered Hibs at Hampden.

Darren Barr, Ryan McGowan and Danny Grainger also netted as Hearts ran riot.

Skacel — who is certain to quit Tynecastle this week — said: “There’s only one team in Edinburgh and it’s fantastic to finish this way.

“I’m so pleased for everyone at Hearts. I won the Scottish Cup in 2006 against Gretna, but you simply can’t compare the two games.

“This is so different and I couldn’t have asked for any more.

“It was a huge game and we showed everybody in Scotland we are the best team in Edinburgh.

“The celebrations will be fantastic on Sunday and even better than in 2006.

“It’s the perfect way to finish the season because winning the Cup is the only thing that people will remember.”

Skacel produced two suberb finishes in a one-sided final.

Watching Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov must be tempted to hand the 32-year-old a new deal on this form.

But Skacel revealed there is little chance he will be wearing maroon next season.

He added: “It’s 99 per cent certain this is my last game for Hearts so it’s fantastic to have the Cup in my hands.

“Hearts are in my heart and I want to thank the fans for the superb support they’ve given me.

“They gave me a warm welcome and were always fantastic with me — this Cup is for them.

“This is the time to celebrate. For the next few days, they can enjoy winning the Scottish Cup.

“I don’t know where I will go next. The season has just finished and I haven’t thought about it.

“We’ll see what happens. It’s out of my hands, I’ll have a think in the next few weeks.

“I don’t know if Hearts will offer me anything. Never say never — but I think that was my last game for the club.”

Skacel also walked away with the man of the match award and admitted it was one of his best games for Hearts.

He said: “I was happy with how I played. I was in the right place today and I was so pleased for the team.

“This is one of my best moments in football. We played so well and the fans enjoyed it.

“Finals are always difficult. We were the favourites and showed we are a much better side and deserved to win 5-1.”
