John's Dundee delight!

22.09.2012

Hearts boss John McGlynn was thrilled with his side as the Jambos recorded a long awaited victory in today's Clydesdale Bank Premier League encounter at Tannadice.

The rampant Jam Tarts won 3-0 - and could have won by a lot more - as a sensational double from Callum Paterson and a trademark long range rocket from Arvydas Novikovas gave Hearts a deserved three points.

Reflecting on the events of the past 90 minutes, John revealed his delight with his charges: "I felt the double whammy of the two goals in a couple of minutes gave us mountains of confidence. I remembered when we were ahead against St Johnstone and Inverness and the second halves of those matches were very difficult so we made sure we didn't throw too many bodies forward and played sensibly.

One of the revelations of this season has been the emergence of the powerful 17-year-old Callum Paterson, who did today what he has been threatening to do all season and started scoring goals. Despite playing in defence and midfield over the course of the campaign, the gaffer believes he's finally found a position to call his own.

"Callum's done brilliantly today with two great finishes. The second is the sort of chance you see missed a lot so he did well to get it in off the post. I would think that centre forward will be his position for us now," said John.

Despite his initial appearances as a flying full-back where he had excelled in pre-season, John revealed that the club had signed Callum as an attacker and that he felt the youngster had a big future as a striker.

"He came to us as an attacker and he's best suited to that. I wanted to get Ryan McGowan forward from midfield so we put Callum at right-back where he did well but perhaps lacked a bit of tactical nous when it came to defending".

"Having seen how he's played since he moved up top, I think it's fair to say he'll be staying there."
