Celtic stalemate for U20s

10.10.2012

Hearts U20s were held to a 0-0 draw at Newtongrange last night against league leaders Celtic U20s.

The Wee Jambos enjoyed long periods of possession but were unable to break the deadlock despite twice hitting the woodwork.

First team coach Gary Locke was the man in charge as Darren Murray was on SFA coaching duty in Ukraine, he picked a strong side that featured only three players who haven't played in the first team this season.

Jason Holt turned in a man of the match performance in the middle of the park, while Scott Robinson cracked the post with a first half free kick.

Peter Enckelman played his second game in three days and pulled off a good second half save from Celtic's Bahrudin Atajic, who had scored in every league game until last night.

Late in the game Dale Carrick had a shot that was deflected wide off the post as the visitors' 100% win record game to an end.

Reflecting on his team's performance, Lockie told Hearts News: "I thought we played really well and should have won the game.

"It was a great peformance from the lads, whose attitude and commitment was first class.

"Unfortunately we just couldn't put away any of the chances we created, but we're delighted with the performance."

On the opposite coast, Wee Jambos 'keeper Jack Hamilton represented Scotland at U19s. He kept a clean sheet as Ricky Sbragia's boys soundly defeated Armenia 4-0 at New Douglas Park in an European Championship qualifier.
