Sell out for St Mirren

16.11.2012

Hearts are set to play in front of their biggest home support in over five years when they tackle St Mirren tomorrow.

Tickets for the game against the Paisley side have been in huge demand since last week's rallying call in the wake of HMRC's winding up order - a threat which has since been lifted in the short term thanks to a payment extension made possible by the fans' enormous fund-raising efforts and the players' deferral of wages.

The club is in the midst of a Share Issue and had also urged supporters to help ease the current financial situation by buying tickets for the next three home games against the Buddies, Celtic (November 28) and Aberdeen (December 8).

The response from the Gorgie faithful has been superb, with tomorrow's Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash heading for a complete sell-out and sales for the next two matches going well.

Interestingly, the previous highest total of home fans at Tynecastle in recent times was the 16,500 (out of a crowd of 17,195) who flocked to see the Jambos take on St Mirren in February 2007.

A Hearts spokesperson said: "To have the 'sold out' signs up tomorrow will be testament to the loyalty and dedication of our great fans.

"There is not a lot of money going around for people in the current climate but the supporters have rallied round the club in difficult circumstances and demonstrated their commitment to the cause.

"They were asked to buy tickets for the upcoming games and they have responded magnificently. There will not be a spare seat in the stadium for home fans tomorrow and that speaks volumes for the Hearts supporters.

"We have earned a reprieve from HMRC earlier this week but the struggle is far from over and we need the fans to continue backing the club directly in any manner they can.

"Selling out the Celtic and Aberdeen games will be a massive help, as will purchasing shares up until the closing date of the Share Issue (December 19)."

The spokesperson added: "The players made a huge gesture with their wage deferrals this month and it is clear to see that everyone is in this together. We have to keep pulling in the right direction and keep the money coming in to give us a chance of progressing towards financial stability."

Callum Tapping, meanwhile, has joined Alloa Athletic on a month's long loan.
