Holt happy to be home

19.11.2012

Jambos starlet Jason Holt made his Tynecastle bow with a bang as he won the sponsors' man-of-the-match award in Saturday's 1-0 win over St Mirren.

The Musselburgh lad looked comfortable and assured on the ball, and wowed spectators with some dazzling footwork and dynamic passing.

In what was his 6th first team appearance, this was Jason's first game for the first team at Tynecastle, yet the U19 Player of the Year for 2011 didn't look phased in front of a sold-out home support.

Speaking after the match to the gathered media, Jason told journalists how the team had to put the club's financial issues to the side for 90 minutes and focus on giving the fund-raising fans a big lift.

"You need to keep your head down and focus on the football, which we did today", the youngster said.

"I've been waiting for my chance, and after my start last week as well, I'm just thrilled to be playing at the top level".

Like his team-mates, Jason was quick to praise the efforts of everybody connected with the club in their efforts in fund-raising to try and keep Hearts beating.

"I think what the fans, the staff behind the scenes, everybody has done is absolutely fantastic."

"I've always been a Hearts fan, and hearing the news that the club could be playing its last game was hard. My uncles are season ticket holders and they've bought into the club even more since the news broke, which is fantastic".

Finally, Jason took the chance to identify himself as one of the "new breed" of Scottish footballers. Despite focus being on the more physical, strong, tall players, the diminutive midfielder described how he liked to play the game, and how he saw the future of Hearts.

"A lot of people look at Scottish football and think it's a physical game, but to me football is about playing with a football, getting the ball down, using it as much as possible. The future of the club is really bright with the young talent we have coming through, which showed today with how young our team was".

"The opportunities are there for everyone, if you do well, the manager is going to pick you. The incentive is there".
