We deserved more - John

Hearts boss John McGlynn felt his young side deserved more as the Jambos crashed to a 4-0 defeat at home to Celtic.

With the champions 3-0 up at half time, Hearts faced an uphill task in the second half but fought admirably to reduce the deficit, however Marius Zaliukas failed to convert a penalty and Celtic scored a 4th late on.

Speaking after the match, John praised his young players who he felt did well despite the tough conditions his team faced.

"I thought Ryan McGowan was outstanding, and Callum Paterson worked very hard up front. I don't think it was a 4-0 game. The statistics showed it was a closer game than the scoreline".

In spite of the result, the gaffer felt his youngsters would have gained some valuable experience from the defeat tonight.

"Celtic had a cutting edge that we lack. They have options on the bench, we don't. Our young players will learn from this, where they saw a team firing on all cylinders".

Finally, John confirmed changes would need to be made for Sunday's Scottish Cup showdown with Hibs.

"Dylan McGowan and Jason Holt both have very bad knocks and we're going to be forced into some changes for Sunday"..
