Gary Caldwell backs Danny Wilson to get cap career back on track at Hearts

STV 23 January 2013 13:16 GMT

Scotland defender Gary Caldwell is backing Danny Wilson to break back in to the national squad during his loan spell with Hearts.

Wigan skipper Caldwell is happy that the Liverpool youngster has come north to join the Tynecastle side for the rest of the season as it gives the 21-year-old a better chance of starting matches.

Caldwell, who has 53 caps for Scotland, said he has always been impressed with the former Rangers stopper on occasions they have played together.

He said: “He went down to Liverpool which was a great move for him at the time but he hasn’t has enough football.

“He can come back now, get a lot of games and gain more experience to get back in the Scotland team.

“I played with him on a few occasions where he was excellent.

“He’s a really promising player who just needs games to progress his career.”
