Andy: Hampden heaven

19.02.2013

USA-BOUND Andrew Driver said farewell to Tynecastle today - and thanked Hearts for giving him the best day of his life in last season's William Hill Scottish Cup Final.

The winger has penned a loan deal with Houston Dynamo in the MLS until the end of his contract in Gorgie, his switch bringing to an end a lengthy association with the Edinburgh club having graduated from the Football Academy in 2003.

The Oldham-born ace was quick to pinpoint the epic 5-1 triumph over Hibs at Hampden Park last May as the golden moment of his career in a maroon jersey and speaking exclusively to Hearts News he said: "I loved my time at Hearts and the club did a lot for me, giving me the best day of my life in the cup final last May.

"But the club is going in a new direction now, I need a fresh start and this move suits both parties. I am excited by the challenge ahead in what will be a new environment for me and I hope to improve my game and bring a new dimension to my career."

He added: "It is good to leave on good terms and know I will always be welcomed back here."

A Hearts spokesperson said: "Andrew has been here for a long time and has done well for the club. We would like to wish him every success as he takes the next exciting steps in his footballing career on the other side of the Atlantic."
