Scott Robinson signs two-year deal with Hearts

SCOTT ROBINSON has signed a new two-year contract with Hearts, tying him to the club until summer 2015. The deal also includes a further one-year option which would keep the midfielder at Tynecastle beyond his 23rd birthday.

Robinson has flitted in and out of the first team this season but is considered a long-term prospect by the Hearts management team. He made his debut as a 16-year-old back in 2008 and played in last season’s Scottish Cup-winning side.

After agreeing terms on a new deal with the Hearts hierarchy, he has pledged his future to the club he has supported since childhood.

The news comes after Hearts granted new contracts to other youth academy graduates Kevin McHattie, Dale Carrick and Jack Hamilton last month. However, it is tempered somewhat by the fact that 20-year-old Robinson has sustained a knee injury which may require immediate surgery.

He will not feature in this evening’s SPL match with

St Mirren in Paisley and is to visit a specialist to determine whether he needs an operation.

“Scott’s picked up a knee

injury. It’s a recurrence of an injury that he had,” said manager John McGlynn. “I think it’s a tear on his meniscus, which is not great. It could be a bad one. It’s an injury he had previously, it recurred during the Hibs game. We’ve tried to back off it and give him some time but it’s come back again.

“Worst-case scenario is that he would need a wee tidy up (operation) on it. It may well be that you can nurse it through to the end of the season, however we’re now talking about ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’. He’s got another opinion to get from a specialist. They’ll talk with him and we’ll decide what the best way to go about it is.”
