Stevo's lowest point

17.03.2013

Double scorer Ryan Stevenson was devastated after Hearts lost 3-2 to St Mirren in the Scottish Communities League Cup Final today at Hampden.

Despite opening the scoring and netting late on, as well as hitting the woodwork twice, goals from Ismael Goncalves, Steven Thompson and Conor Newton ended Hearts' League Cup hopes and sent the Jambos back along the M8 trophyless.

Putting on a brave face after the match, Stevo faced the press and revealed he thought Hearts deserved more from the match, as well as admitting he could never enjoy his double as it was tinged with sadness and regret.

"At the moment we're all massively disappointed. We deserved at least extra time, but we didn't take our chances and gave away three cheap goals."

"Usually scoring two goals in a final should be something to look back on, but it's the lowest moment of my career."

Stevo also revealed his happiness at the appointment of Gary Locke, but admitted the players were distraught and told the supporters of his sadness that they couldn't repay them with a trophy after a hard season.

"Gary's been a breath of fresh air, and we know what the club means to him, so we need to win the rest of our games. There's boys absolutely devastated in the dressing room, so he doesn't need to say anything to us."

"The fans have done so much for the club this year and we're devastated that we couldn't repay them. Starting the second half that way was criminal. The goals were cheap, but credit to St Mirren they were clinical with their chances and deserve to win for that."
