Gary's substitution success

06.04.2013

Hearts manager Gary Locke was thrilled with his side's comeback as Hearts snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against high-flying Ross County today at Tynecastle.

In a pulsating game, a double from the Staggies' striker Steffen Wohlfarth - broken up by a Michael Ngoo header - looked to have given County the three points going into the final 12 minutes, before a stunning three-goal blitz from the home side earned the Jambos a 4-2 victory.

Goals from substitute Jason Holt and a second for Ngoo, as well as a spectacular own-goal from Evangelos Ikonomou proved to be the difference as Hearts headed into the SPL split with the first win of the Gary Locke era.

The man himself was in a jovial mood as he chatted with the press after the game, describing his emotions as he got his first win since being appointed on a full time basis as manager.

"It's a great feeling. I want more performances like the second half, and no more like the first" said the manager, referring to the first 45 minutes when the away side were utterly dominant. "I had to make changes, I wasn't happy at all with the first half performance."

"We could defend their goals better, but their striker's had two great efforts. Ross County will feel aggrieved not to get anything but I have to praise my goalkeeper, he kept us in the game."

Hearts struggled in the first half, both defensively and offensively, with County keeper Michael Fraser being a virtual spectator between the sticks as the Jambos failed to create any meaningful chances.

Immediately after half-time, however, the Jambos mixed up their play with Kevin McHattie floating in a lovely touch which was bulleted home by the on-rushing Michael Ngoo.

"The first cross we put into the box, we scored from. We weren't doing it at all in the first half, and we were stressing that to the team, because we have players who can score goals."

Finally, the gaffer was nonchalant when asked if his target for the rest of the season was to overtake capital rivals Hibs, insisting he was concentrating on his own team first-and-foremost, and keen to deliver entertainment to the supporters in the remaining weeks of the season.

"I'm not bothered about Hibs or anyone else, I'm focussed on getting as many points and possible and giving the fans something to enjoy when they come here to see us play."
