Celtic v Hibs: player ratings

Sunday 26 May 2013

Here's an assessment of how the players fared in the final:

CELTIC

FRASER FORSTER - Was alert to stop Doyle's early header and had little else to do - 6/10.

MIKAEL LUSTIG - Sometimes wasteful in possession but his forward bursts put Hibs on the back foot for two goals and the Swede performed his defensive duties well - 6.

EMILIO IZAGUIRRE - Rarely allowed the dangerous Harris to get beyond him in the first half and put in some decent crosses - 7.

KELVIN WILSON - An imposing presence in central defence, won every ball that came his way - 7.

CHARLIE MULGREW - Solid performance from the centre-back - 6.

SCOTT BROWN - Got on top of the midfield exchanges after Hooper's early opener and was equally adept at winning and retaining possession - 8.

JOE LEDLEY - The consistent midfielder put in another hard-working shift to keep Celtic in control and continued his habit of scoring in big games with an emphatic finish to put them 3-0 up and out of sight - 7.

JAMES FORREST - Playing on the right of a midfield diamond but rarely got out wide to run at defenders and few things came off for him - 5.

KRIS COMMONS - His intelligent movement off the front caused Hibernian problems all afternoon - 7.

GARY HOOPER - Took his two goals well and should have had a hat-trick before Ledley netted - 7.

ANTHONY STOKES - Delivered two wonderful crosses for strike partner Hooper to convert and his piece of skill helped set up the third. Caused numerous problems when drifting out to the left flank - 9.

Substitutes

GEORGIOS SAMARAS (for Commons, 76) - Came on as Hibs were chasing the game - 4.

EFE AMBROSE (for Brown, 81) - Kept Hibs out from central midfield in a late cameo - 5.

PADDY McCOURT (for Forrest, 88) - Looked like he was making a farewell appearance when handed the armband for the final few moments - 4.

HIBERNIAN

BEN WILLIAMS - Misjudged Anthony Stokes' cross for the opener but made a good save to deny Joe Ledley - 5.

ALAN MAYBURY - Failed to properly clear initial cross before Stokes centred for the first goal and struggled to cope with his fellow Irishman when he peeled off - 5.

RYAN McGIVERN - Put in a good early cross to give Eoin Doyle Hibs' best chance of the game but could not match it and was given a tough time by Celtic's many attacking options - 5.

PAUL HANLON - Could not get close enough to Gary Hooper for both the striker's goals - 5.

JORDON FORSTER - The 19-year-old was making only his fourth appearance amid the absence of James McPake and Tim Clancy and did himself justice despite the difficult task - 6.

JORGE CLAROS - Was influential as Hibs made a bright start but grew increasingly frustrated at Celtic's superiority - 6.

KEVIN THOMSON - The left midfielder's diagonal ball to send Griffiths through was the most cutting contribution of the afternoon for his side. Did a decent job but further back than he would have liked - 6.

TOM TAIWO - Made a couple of early bursts forward but could not maintain the support to his forwards and lacked urgency in possession - 5.

ALEX HARRIS - Some promising forays down the flanks but could not get behind the Celtic defence - 6.

EOIN DOYLE - An early header which Fraser Forster parried proved to be his side's best chance and endured a frustrating final game before he departs for Chesterfield - 5.

LEIGH GRIFFITHS - Got in behind Celtic once and round Fraser Forster but ran out of space. Hibernian's talisman was mostly isolated up front and appeared to be struggling with the calf injury he picked up on Friday in training - 6.

Substitutes

DANIEL HANDLING (for Doyle, 71) - Lively contribution from the young forward but to no avail - 5.

ROSS CALDWELL (for Thomson, 76) - Tried to get involved but a comeback was beyond Hibs - 4.

LEWIS STEVENSON (for Griffiths, 84) - Given a late run-out when the game was over - 4.
